It’s been a while since I’ve done this, but TBIR is back again with another quick review of the week’s headlines. This week’s update article takes a look at some of the latest US and international game show news in 200 characters or less (with the special exception of the first story, for obvious reasons).
BREAKING MY OWN RULES: It was nice to see him – to see him… NICE. Legendary British emcee Bruce Forsyth died Friday afternoon at the age of 89. Throughout his illustrious career, Forsyth hosted a myriad of game shows including The Generation Game, Play Your Cards Right, The Price Is Right, Beat The Clock and Hot Streak in the US. One of Forsyth’s final hosting gigs was as a host on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing from 2004-2014. The beloved entertainer will truly be missed. Sir Bruce Forsyth was one of the most talented and gifted game show hosts to ever grace the television stage.
Channel 4’s The Crystal Maze returns next Friday on August 25 at 8:00pm with new episodes, more than likely featuring civilian contestants for the first time this series.
Noel Edmonds’ latest game show, Cheap Cheap Cheap, debuted earlier this week on Channel 4 and was met with negative reception from several critics including Ed Power of The Telegraph.
Remedy Productions is searching for contestants for the new BBC One game show Ready or Not. The deadline to apply is September 15. The first series of the Saturday night show airs for six episodes.
After running for 14 years, BBC has officially cancelled In It To Win It. Earlier this year, the network pulled the National Lottery Live drawings, which aired in conjunction with the game show.
The Family Chase is set to debut September 2 on ITV. The first series of the spinoff show will air for six episodes on Saturday nights.
MTV International ordered ten episodes of a new game show called Crash Karaoke. Hosts Hannah Rad & Dylan Landon “crash” unsuspecting locations and engage contestants in an impromptu karaoke challenge.
